Palliative Care Champion/Link Nurse
This 2 day course is targetted at motivated nurses wishing to advance this area of practice in their their local setting. The course goes into some important terminology relating to palliative and end of life care followed by a detailed look at end of life trajectories and symptom profiles. From this the session focusses on MDT care planning in palliative and end of life care looking at current evidence based best practice. Ethical dilemas and spiritual issues are discussed as part of the holistic care planning approach. In the second day delegates go through a series of practical applications of theory looking at symptom management, communication and support for the wider family unit. The course moves to discussion on the role of the champion and readies delegates to develop their own ongoing research portfolios giving advice on how to support team mates and advance best practice by information sharing and networking with other professionals.
