Management of Tracheostomy including Tracheal Suctioning
This course looks at the routine anagement of a tracheostomy patient in the social care environment. The course begins by defining relevant terminology, provides theoretical background anatomy and physiology and explores the rationale behind insertion of a tracheostomy tube. The class will look at some common devices and anciliary equipment such as humidifiers, supplementary oxygen and cough assist. Delegates go on to perform a range of practical skills in a simulated environment including stoma maintenance, tube maintenance, tape changes and open suctioning. The course looks at some complications and troubleshooting of issues.
